Ubuntu:
Far and above the most popular Operating System with our clients is Ubuntu Linux. Most of our client's end-users are not even aware that they are using Linux. Nearly all of them were able to get their tasks completed without any compatability issues. Many of these end-users are the parents, inlaws, and grandparents that are typically the hardest users to support. This in itself speaks volumes as to how far Linux has come since the Slackware days! 8^)
Firefox:
Firefox is the most popular Web Browser with out clients. The ability to have the same browser on multiple Operating Systems also gives it an edge over competing browsers as the end-user does not have to relearn anything.
OpenOffice:
OpenOffice is our most popular productivity suite, mostly due to it's excellent pricing! It also has the same benefits as Firefox in that it is cross-platform.The most recent versions support almost all of the functionality of the Microsoft productivity suite.
Gimp:
Gimp is an excellent graphic package which provides quite a bit of functionality. It can be used from simple drawings to elaborate 3D effects and animations. There is an initial learning curve with this package, but once the clients get past it they are quite comfortable with the results.
ClamAV:
ClamAV is our most popular AntiVirus solution. It has a proven track record and is cross-platform as well. It also has some nice benefits such as running it on a linux platform to scan files on a windows share/partition. The virus definitions are updated daily and it has a high detection rate. Once it provides the ability for real-time scanning it will most likely be the only virus scanner we recommend as it doesn't have time-limits or nagware associated with it.
VMWare:
VMWare is our most installed virtualization solution. This product is very mature and is the current defacto standard for Desktop virtualization. There are several other players in this area, but this one has the features and name recognition that our clients appreciate. The fact that there are hundreds of downloadable preconfigured virtual machines on the web is another major selling point.
